You know that feeling when…
You know you’re dressed well, you look good, and you’re confident and excited as you step out of your door?
Feel like this more often this year by paying more attention to the details that make you look good. Increase your confidence at work and in your relationships by looking your best.
These 6 simple skin care secrets are quick ways to take care of yourself better. They’ll make a big impact on improving your skin, one of the things that people notice first about you.
Here are 6 beauty secrets of women with healthy skin. As with everything, the devil is in the details…
1. BECOME A LABEL READER [1]
Avoid products that contain nasty chemicals and preservatives, like parabens.
Take a proactive approach to healthy skin and anti-aging by using a quality moisturizer is important, says Dennis Gross, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City.
Look for moisturizers that contain anti-wrinkle ingredients such as:
- Antioxidants from essential oils, like Chamomile[2] and Helichrysum[3], which can help promote collagen production and cellular regeneration
- Peptides and Hyaluronic acid to maintain skin’s hydration
- Anti-inflammatory agents, like hyaluronic acid, German chamomile and Helichrysum oil
2. CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES [4]
You may not realize that you can undo all of your hard work towards healthy skin if you’re using dirty brushes. Makeup and skin oils build up on your makeup brushes, creating a breeding ground for bacteria and acne.
Wash your brushes at least once a month with liquid hand soap or shampoo and warm water. It takes less than 5 minutes and your skin will thank you!
3. EXFOLIATE REGULARLY AT NIGHT
Healthy skin renews itself during sleep, and exfoliating dead skin cells prior to bedtime enhances your skin’s renewal process. When you have dry skin, your skin’s enzymes that cause dead skin to fall off don’t have enough moisture to work properly.
That’s why Candice Betty, founder of Organic Radiance Skincare, tells clients to use a gentle face scrub, like this homemade sugar scrub once a week, and a gentle Alpha-Hydroxy-Acid Toner daily—she uses the Clarifying Toner from ORS, which gently dissolves the glue that holds dead skin cells in place and is gentle enough for sensitive skin.
4. MOISTURIZE AFTER WASHING
Washing your face strips your skin of its natural oils. A quality face cream will replace these lost oils, provide essential nutrients to help your skin stay young, and help your skin maintain it’s moisture. Apply it when your skin is damp, within ten minutes of showering or washing your face.
5. WEAR SUNSCREEN EVERY DAY [5]
Dermatologists recommend using sunscreen on your face daily as the single most important step towards healthy skin and slowing skin aging. That means using at least SPF 30 if you plan to be outdoors and SPF 15, even in wintertime.
If you don’t like the heaviness of sunscreen, the new shake and spray fluids called “shaka shaka” can feel better for some patients, says Boston dermatologist Ranella Hirsch.
6. TAKE OFF YOUR MAKEUP AT NIGHT
Don’t wait until you’re sleepy after an hour of TV at night – wash your face as soon as you get home.
During the day, your makeup mixes with skin oils and dirt. The cosmetics you wear can also stick free radicals, like car exhaust, from the air on your skin.
“Makeup wipes are quick and convenient but not optimal for overall skin health,” says California dermatologist Dr. Craig Kraffert.
The residue that makeup wipes leave on your skin may expose it to high concentrations of drying and irritating chemicals.
If you have sensitive skin or Rosacea, “use a face wash that purifies with activated charcoal to bind impurities” says Candice Betty.
She recommends ORS’s Purifying Black Facewash with gentle exfoliating fruit extracts to prevent breakouts and prime the skin for renewal during sleep.
These simple skin care secrets for healthy skin are easy ways to make a big impact on your skin’s look and feel! Start incorporating these small changes and you’ll see the results of your hard work with naturally radiant skin!
