How to Choose the Best Skincare Routine For You

When you’re trying to decide how to choose the best skin care routine and which products to include, it helps to think about a few questions.

  • What are your concerns about your skin? What issues are you trying to address? Redness, aging, dryness, irritation?
  • How many products do you want to use in your skin care routine?
  • How much time and money do you want to invest into your skin?
  • Is your skin sensitive and do you want to avoid products with artificial scents to avoid irritation?

Why I Love a Plant-based Skin Care Routine

When I first started using skin care products, I thought that washing my face a LOT was the way I would get clear skin and avoid breakouts. I avoided products with oil in them like they were agents of mass facial destruction.

I WAS WRONG.

After I studied biology and chemistry and worked in product development, I started to understand skin health on a deeper level. I was particularly intrigued by how inflammation shows up in the skin and how to calm it. I discovered the world of healing with botanicals and came to realize how these healing modalities are underfunded in our modern world.

When I went through the trial and error of formulating my first skin care product, calming my skin with organic plant-derived ingredients was my singular focus. I started with a rich moisturizer to help calm my Rosacea. Then I added an activated charcoal cleanser to prevent further breakouts and irritation.

As my understanding and appreciation of skin care deepened, I added one new product to my skin care routine, then another. I came to really love the complex chemistry of botanicals and their unique ability to nourish our skin. Plant extracts and essential oils nourished my skin like the fruit and vegetables I ate nourished my body.

How to Choose the Best Skin Care Routine & Which Products to Include

Now, I like to work with my clients to pair them with the level of skin care that they need at the time. These needs can and often do change over time.

Level 1 Minimalist

First, I explain that cleansing and moisturizing is the minimum that I recommend for healthy skin. If you don’t have any issues with your skin and don’t want to invest a lot of time, you can start out with what I call Level 1 Minimalist skin care.

The Level 1 skin care routine alleviates dryness, calms redness, and doesn’t contain any artificial scents. With only 2 products, it takes about 2 minutes in the morning and at night.

If you’re looking to nourish and protect your skin, the next level of care is Level 2 Experienced skin care. This adds a toner and an anti-aging product to the two Minimalist products. Toner preps your skin to absorb the nutrients in your serum and moisturizer. Serums with antioxidants can help slow the signs of aging as you enter your 30’s and beyond.

Level 2 Experienced

This skin care routine reduces redness, helps slow the signs of aging, alleviates dryness, and is designed for sensitive skin. It’s an investment of about 4 minutes in the morning and night.

If you’re really committed to treating your skin well and achieving total radiance for your skin, you’ll want Level 3 Advanced skin care. At this level, I recommend adding a scrub, mask, and micellar water to your skin care routine.

Using a double cleansing method with micellar water before your facewash at night helps to completely remove sunscreen and makeup. Adding a weekly scrub and mask to exfoliate and purify pores reveals your skin’s freshest layer and gives you total radiance.

This skin care routine is a complete solution to preventing dryness, calming redness and irritation, and fighting the signs of aging. It’s formulated for sensitive skin and doesn’t contain preservatives or potentially irritating chemicals.

Level 3 Advanced

With the Level 3 skin care routine, you’ll invest about 5 minutes in the morning and at night and 10 minutes on the weekend. You’ll see a transformation in how your skin looks and feels over time, and you won’t want to go without!

Your Best Skin Care Routine Takeaways

Choosing the best skin care routine for you is really about what you’d like to achieve with your skin care routine.

  • Are you looking for clean skin and to prevent dryness?
  • Are you willing to invest more into your skin to feel good about your skin in 10 years?
  • How much do you enjoy using your skin care products?

The answers to these questions are very personal and will likely change for you over time. If you have sensitive skin, start with just a few products and use plant-based skin care. If you’re looking for anti-aging, make sure to include a serum with as many nutrients and antioxidants as possible. Pampering your skin can be such a treat, a much needed time for self-care, and a Level 3 Advanced Bundle can be a special gift that you get to enjoy and reap the benefits of for many months.

Your skin care routine can evolve as you do, so make sure you choose products that you’re committed to using every day. Give your skin a couple of weeks to get used to any new routine you start. Don’t feel bad about tossing any older skin care products that you haven’t used up. Fresh skin starts with using fresh products. Your Organic Radiance Skincare products don’t contain chemical stabilizers or preservatives, so you’ll want to refresh them every 6 months.
